UK disc counterfeiter ordered to repay £59,000

A man from Workington, Cumbria, was ordered to repay over £59,000 after he was found guilty of copying illegally CDs and DVDs.

It is estimated Peter Rumney, 39, made £59,625 from his conterfeiting operation. He was given a suspended 15-month jail sentence in October, after pleading guilty to selling copied films, music, computer games and pornography between August 2002 and June 2004.

Police and trading standards officers raided his house and seized over 3,000 counterfeited discs.

The financial investigation into Rumney's affairs was carried out by the Assets Recovery Agency and he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court. The court ordered him to pay £59,000 to film companies and £7,500 prosecution costs. (Source: timesandstar.co.uk.)
