Toshiba has pushed back the release of its HD DVD next-generation DVD players from March until April to coincide with the release of HD DVD movie titles.
Studios are taking longer than expected to convert films to the new format, and Toshiba wants to launch its new players simultaneously with the release of HD DVD titles.
Though Toshiba has not announced a specific release date for the HD DVD players, many are speculating that it will be 18 April, when Time Warner plans to release its first HD DVD titles.
Even with the delay, it appears that the HD DVD format will hit stores before rival next-generation DVD format Blu-ray disc. Sony plans to launch its Blu-ray players this summer, and its Playstation 3 video game console, set to launch in November, will also feature the Blu-ray player.
