In a world’s first, French company Volfoni is demonstrating at CeBIT in Hanover a new generation of “intelligence” 3D glasses – ActiveEyes – based on an hybrid active/passive technology that allows user to view 3D content on any platform and thus eliminate the choice between active shutter glasses and passive glasses.
There is a battle going on amongst TV manufacturers as to whether to back ‘active’ or ‘passive’ 3D systems. There is the view that active shutter glasses produce best results, but they are not cheap.
The 3D glasses work with all brands of active 3D screens (TVs and PCs), as well as with all passive 3D screens (commonly used in movie theaters). They can be used as sunglasses as well (standard class 2 – 4 optical protection) and feature a top-of-the-line liquid crystal technology. Weighing 29 grams, they are one of the most lightweight glasses on the market.
The company says its is the visual quality that makes ActivEyes glasses stand out, claiming they are the most comfortable 3D glasses on the market, as well as the brightest in terms of luminosity.
The ActivEyes system is composed of the glasses and a mini electronic “box,” which can be attached to clothing. Aware of the economic challenges of 3D, Volfoni also offers a unique technology which allows the mini “box” to be used with a hub, which can connect to several pairs of glasses at one time. This is an advantage for family who want to watch 3D content together.
Volfoni was founded in March 2007, and is now the leading 3D solutions rental and sales business in France. For more than 3 years, the company serves 70% of exhibitors who make the choice to equip their theaters with 3D active glasses.
