Prague-based digital service company Brickbox Digital Media, a member of the KIT group, released the first multi-territory stereoscopic 3D BD – Piranha 3D – the latest action thriller by director Alexandre Aja, from The Hills Have Eyes fame.
Brickbox undertook in house all stages of the production. Piranha 3D has been localised for distribution in four territories – the Czech Republic (Bontonfilm), Hungary (Budapest Film), Romania (Pro Media) and Bulgaria (A+Plus Film). Moreover, the 3D BD title has Czech, English and Hungarian audio versions in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 format.
In addition to the feature, Brickbox also produced the theatrical 3D trailer with 3D subtitling and localisation for the Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Polish and Croatian markets.
An anaglyph 3D treatment of the Blu-ray disc was also produced which includes both a 2D and 3D version of the film on one disc and comes with red/cyan paper glasses “to enable consumers to enjoy a fun 3D experience at home without owning a 3D screen display.”
“Through a unique one-stop shop solution and clever workflow management, we were able to optimise the assets used for the original theatrical digital cinema releases and create home entertainment products in a simple, fast and cost-effective manner,” says Daniel Hromadko, Brickbox’s Vice President. “DCI, BD and DVD localisation processes were required and, in this case, we encoded source content in various formats for a range of deliverables.”
