Vilnius has opened the first Blu-ray disc production facility in the Baltic States, which is claimed to be one of the most modern optical disc manufacturing plants in Europe. The production centre is operated by the company Baltic Solar Energy.
The European Union allocated a total of LTL4.1 million (€1.18m) is aid for the provision of equipment. The Blu-ray plant will use state-of-the-art technology “which currently is used only by such major companies as Sony, Philips and Warner Bros,” says the communiqué.
"I rejoice at the results we have achieved together,” says Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius during the opening ceremony. “It is wonderful that thanks to the assistance of the European Union we are able to help these business leaders who are going ahead with investment in new technologies without fear of global competition. It makes Lithuania a modern country." (Source: The Baltic Course).
