HP joins One-Blue licensing programme for Blu-ray Disc products

Hewlett-Packard has joined the One-Blue product licensing programme as a licensor. HP has been a major contributor to the development of the Blu-ray Disc standard and joins current licensors Cyberlink, Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips and Sony.

"HP has helped to invent and develop the Blu-ray Disc format and currently ships many versions of Blu-ray Disc-enabled notebooks and desktop PCs," said Clifford Loeb, MD, Standards Licensing at HP. "By joining the One-Blue patent pool, we show our commitment and belief that this programme is beneficial for licensors, licensees and our end-users."

"We hope that this important step also encourages other industry leaders to follow and join our programme," says Roel Kramer, CEO of One-Blue.

One-Blue administers the licensing program for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc products and is the joint licensing agent of its licensors. For hardware and software products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD essential patents; for disc products, the product license covers Blu-ray Discâ„¢ essential patents. One-Blue is an innovative patent pool that levels the playing field, reduces costs, and fosters fair use of the patent system in the entire optical disc sector.
