Entertainment Distribution Company, Europe's largest independent CD and DVD replicator, is extending its reach into the Nordic region with the appointment of Steen Baunehøj Jørgensen as Country Manager for Scandinavia. He was previously Sales Director at DVD Norden, the Danish optical disc replicator that went into administration in June.
Jørgensen (pictured below) said: "EDC is perfectly placed to service the customers I've worked with over the years, both in terms of location and its excellent reputation. I am particularly excited to be able to introduce EDC's new Blu-ray capabilities which I am sure will be of great benefit to many customers in the region."
EDC is now offering Blu-ray disc production after investing in a state-of-the-art Singulus Bluline II manufacturing line. It will start processing Blu-ray orders from August onwards.
Some 30 employees were left without jobs after DVD Norden filed for bankruptcy following several years of losses. In the last financial year the company lost DKK4.2 million (€565,000), totalling €2,7 million over the last three years.
A handful of employees remained this week to fulfill the remaining orders. "There is simply not enough volume at the factory so we produce a loss," said director Kim Christensen to folketidende.dk. "We have long hoped to reverse the situation and gain new customers. We have not succeeded, so now we have to close." According to the news source there was no immediate buyer for the company.
