MPAA unveils internet gateway to legitimate films, TV programmes

In a move that echoes the UK's www.FindAnyFilm.com, now under the stewardship of the Industry Trust for IP Awareness, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has unveiled www.WheretoWatch.org, a new website that will serve as a one-stop resource for audiences to access movies and TV shows seamlessly and legally.

The website, at www.WheretoWatch.org, makes it easy for audiences to watch content online by breaking the various services into relevant categories and summarizing what each platform provides, including what content is available, how it is supported, and what devices are compatible. The list is an aggregate based on services available in the United States, and although the set of services offering movies and TV shows differ by country, several services are available in multiple countries.

"Audiences want seamless access to film and TV shows. Our industry has listened, and we are now delivering more choices than ever before," said Senator Dodd, Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the MPAA. "There have never been more ways to access movies and television legitimately online, and those platforms continue to grow and develop thanks in large part to a copyright system that encourages innovation, risk and growth."

In the UK, research commissioned by the Industry Trust found that 'convenience' and 'confusion' were two key drivers of copyright infringement. FindAnyfilm.com can "to play a pivotal role in countering these by offering consumers a clear, easy-to-use gateway to legitimate film, TV and video services." The MPAA initiative intends to emulate the UK initiative.
