According to initial data for 2007, SEVN, the French video publishers association, notes a fall in the DVD sell-through market for the third year in a row. Last year, retail sales dropped by 11% in revenues 10% in unit volume.
SEVN observes that France is the only major European country to see such a decline in 2007. Over the past three years, the retail market has fallen by a cumulative 25% in value.
To slow this decline, the publishers association calls for the immediate implementation of measures outlined in the so-called Oliviennes report and agreed upon on 23 November of last year aimed at fighting DVD piracy and counterfeits as well as shortening the exhibition windows to get the DVD version in the market earlier.
