More than 15,000 counterfeit DVDs and 30 DVD burners were seized by Birmingham Trading Standards in the UK.
Acting on intelligence from the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), and accompanied by West Midlands Police, they also seized DVD cases and inlays. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of production and distribution of counterfeit goods, contrary to the Trade Marks Act 1994, and remain in custody.
The Chair of the Public Protection Committee,said: “It is important these goods were seized before they hit the streets, especially at this time of year when people are Christmas shopping.”
For his part, Kieron Sharp, FACT Director General, added: “The trade in counterfeit DVDs brings harm to local communities and threatens local businesses, it adversely affect genuine traders who are trying to make a living.”
