Warner Home Entertainment intends to postpone indefinitely the release of its hybrid format Total HD. The format, with a BD layer on one side and an HD layer on the other, was unveiled amidst a flurry of publicity at this year's CES show and touted as a solution to the format war.
Since the original announcement, Warner has made a number of statements further delaying the launch of the format, originally pegged for the second half of the year. Now, according to a Warner executive, the Paramount move to HD DVD exclusivity has created a perceived shift in retailer needs.
"The short answer is, for the moment, Total HD is on hold," says Jim Noonan, SVP of Strategic Promotion and Communication for Warner Home Entertainment Group, in an interview on specialist website High-Def Digest.
