CDA links with partners on RFID-enabled discs

German replicator CDA Datenträger Albrechts has teamed up with Brooks Automation UPM Raflatac RFID business and Stora Enso Digital Solutions to offer a optical disc product complete with Electronic Product Code (EPC)-compliant serial number, data storage capacities and personalised packaging.

CDA already manufacturers CDs and DVDs that come with a uniquely identifiable UPM Raflatac 13.56 MHz tag, and this link with new partners now provides a complete solution. Brooks Automation manufactures RFID (Radio-frequency identification) readers and integrates them into end user processes, while Stora Enso Digital Solutions offers digitally printed and personalized DBS Discbox Slider CD boxes - made from 100% premium cardboard featuring various economical and ecological benefits.

The product opens the way for new applications in anti-counterfeiting and inventory logistics and has already been adopted in the field of ticketing solutions.

For example, event organisers, sports clubs and advertising companies can now distribute media contents on the actual ticket itself. The end-user benefiting by receiving information about cross-selling initiatives, team information, bonus music tracks, games, movies and sponsor trailers, to name but a few possibilities.

With an easy-to-integrate RFID reader infrastructure, order volumes start at 500 units and pricing ranges from €4 per RFID disc for a high-end finish and customized shaping to €2.30 for a standard optical data carrier with an embedded UPM Raflatac transponder.
