China Hualu launches new Blu-ray Disc recorder
China Hualu Group, a state-run maker of optical storage, recording and playback products in China, recently launched its new Blu-ray Disc recorder with a 500GB HHD, the HMC9502, for sale bundled with 30 BD-disc movies, mainly China-produced, at a recommended retail price of 3,999 yuan ($586).
China retail prices for a BD movies average 175 yuan ($25), but China Hualu is able to keep its production costs below 100 yuan ($14.50). The company has so far published more than 50 BD movies for the domestic market.
China Hualu has a domestic market share of 30% for BD players and 50% for BD discs. It plans to expand its retail network from 500 stores at present to 2,000 ones in 2010, industry sources said.
