Samsung is reported to be introducing, in Japan, the first smartphone featuring video codec DivX. This is in the wake of an announcement by South Korea’s Pantec, back in July of last year, of a mobile phone with DivX player, the Qbric IM-R470S.
This opens up the way for the video content from PC and web to be added to mobiles. Although, first end-users will have to do some conversion on PC using free DivX converter for mobile. After conversion, videos can be viewed on mobiles in standard definition quality. The Qbric phone allows users to watch movies on its 3.2-inch widescreen WVGA touchscreen LCD (800×480 resolution). The screen has viewing angle of 160 degree, making watching movies on the phone more pleasant.
This Qbric phone also supports SKY 3D UI ‘TruEmotion’ optimized to full-touch screen. The device also features proximity sensor, illumination sensor and acceleration sensor. Other features of the phone include a built-in 3-megapixel digital camera with face recognition technology, GPS photographing, SKY neon, and Bluetooth.
