High-definition audio and video producer/distributor AIX Records has released its first 3D Music Album(tm) on the Blu-ray 3D format. The Goldberg Variations Acoustica by the AIX All Star Band is only the second commercially-available BD 3D disc (the first is Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) and is the first 3D disc to feature a music performance recorded especially for the format. It is also the first BD 3D to use Dolby Laboratories TrueHD lossless encoding format.
Recorded in early June using using four prototype 3D Panasonic 3D A1 cameras, the Goldberg Variations Acoustica is a single movement 53-minute improvisational performance by some of Los Angeles' most talented studio musicians and artists.
The work is the third in a series conceived and executed by AIX Records' company founder and chief engineer Mark Waldrep. The disc was produced and authored using Netblender’s DoStudio software. AIX will be producing seven BD 3D discs for release this fall – 10% of the total available from any production facility.
AIX Records calls their productions 3D Music Albums and hopes to establish the concept of "private performances" in consumers' home theaters as a market segment in the new 3D home marketplace.
Other productions in the series include Grammy-winning vocalist Rita Coolidge, multi-platinum country artist Mark Chesnutt, classical/jazz crossover flutist James Walker and Free Flight and the 2010 Gold Medal winners of the The Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, The Old City String Quartet.
Founded in 2000, AIX Records, a division of AIX Media Group, is an award-winning media label that is a pioneer and innovator in the production and distribution of high definition, surround music with HD Audio/Video. The label has one of the largest catalogs of high definition, surround music recordings in the world with over 1000 tracks captured using state-of-the-art equipment and a unique methodology.
